Level Up

November 3 · Issue #12 · View online
Level Up delivers a curated newsletter for leaders in tech by @patkua. Ideal for busy people such as Tech Leads, Engineering Managers, VPs of Engineering, CTOs and more.

I had a quick trip over to our Barcelona office this week, running 12 mentoring sessions with various people. I’ve really enjoyed having the opportunity in my current role to help others level up by asking difficult questions, providing advice and helping people find a slightly different focus, separate from the rush of the day-to-day life.
Mentoring definitely helps others level up. As a mentor however, I find you also learn something yourself when explaining topics in different ways, or helping someone discover a blocker that may just be their perception. In that process, you also level up.
I hope you enjoy this week’s content. If you find it useful, please forward to someone else and send me feedback.

Mentoring is a great way of helping others to level up

Apologies for including a tweet with some swearing, but I agreed that community and tooling makes a huge impact on programming languages.
john. gene. whatever.
Important things when evaluating new programming languages, in very specific order:
1) community
2) tooling
3) everyfuckingthing else
4) syntax https://t.co/kcqwskGvsI
