Level Up

November 10 · Issue #13 · View online
Level Up delivers a curated newsletter for leaders in tech by @patkua. Ideal for busy people such as Tech Leads, Engineering Managers, VPs of Engineering, CTOs and more.

It’s seems to be peak conference time in Europe so I’ve had some time during travel to put this newsletter together with a trip to Munich for W-JAX, where I gave a keynote on Building Evolutionary Architectures and then back to Berlin for the O'Reilly Software Architecture Berlin conference doing a new talk on Scaling out architectural decision making. As much as I love meeting and chatting to people at conferences, many introverts will also recognise you need to find ways to find quiet and recharge. That’s why I’m not complaining too much about the poor weather in Berlin this weekend.
I hope you enjoy this week’s content. If you find it useful, please forward to someone else and send me feedback.

Great advice for not just leaders, but all people. However leaders often set the role model for others, so make sure to act out the behaviour you expect.

The future of automated coding is here! 😲

So this just happened:

- a bot found a vulnerability in a dependency
- a bot sent a PR to fix it
- the CI verified the PR
- a bot merged it
- a bot celebrated the merge with a GIF

This may resonate with those who have been around for a while… I wonder what will come? 🤔

Stylish tech naming conventions:

70s: The word "Systems" somewhere in the name
80s: 'X' or 'Xy' starting a name
90s: Lowercase 'e' starting a name
00s: Lowercase 'i' starting a name
10s: Missing vowels in name

Who knows what the future holds?!
